Message about the WPC in Canada

Effective January 10th, 2010 the WPC in Canada is sanctioning a new organization, the Canadian Powerlifting Federation, nicknamed CPF,  to carry forward with single ply, multi-ply and raw competitions in Canada under the rules and direction of the WPC and AWPC. The CPF will be the only federation sanctioned for WPC and AWPC events in 2010 in Canada.

For lifters from the CPO joining the CPF there will be no noticeable changes. All CPO lifters are automatically members of the CPF. All exisitng CPO meet directors have joined the CPF and planned meets for 2010 are on track including the Ontario Bench, National Equipped and Raw, Montreal Power Wars and Ontario Pro and Raw Championships. All CPO records, which were created under sanction of the WPC,  will be carried forward to the CPF and will form the baseline for future CPF records. If you had a record in the CPO it is yours under the CPF. Current records are on the www.metalmilitia.ca website.

Separate Amateur competitions, which are drug tested, will continue to be held in each national championship. Since 2006 the WPC affiliates in Canada has not had a single drug test failure at a tested Amateur competition.

A new group of managers has taken on the responsibility for guiding the CPF and include Bruce McIntyre, Shane Church, Dave Gratton, Cheryl McKenzie, Ross Saldan and Clint Harwood. The new managers group is committed to continuing the WPC tradition in Canada of low cost, fun events which cater to all lifter types from raw novice lifters through to experienced equipped lifters.

The new website is www.canadianpowerliftingfederation.com and will be up and running in the near future.

If you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact Bruce McIntyre via email at the following address: brucemcintyre@sympatico.ca
